MTB frames

after alot of searching I finally bought myself a hardtail frame!!

(rm8 carbon raleigh)

now I'm wondering, while doing some research I came across

Merida frame for about R4000 and a friend of mine bought a Specialized @ R7000. (both new)

are there aluminum frames out there under 1.4kg?  or are all the "pro" racing frames about the same weight?

why then are some so expensive compared to others?

are they really any better, only riding along on a big name?

same goes for carbon frames?

is there a huge difference between, say an orea alma and the raleigh carbon frames??

or are we paying more for a nice "name"?

is not only the name, is the R+D that goes with it, the bigger the brand the more money they spend on research and the more reliable the frame. it is very simple

Allow me to open thin here can of worms....

Your friend got ripped!

Let's face it, some brands market their product so well that people are convinced it's worth spending twice as much on it, even though in reality they just aren't that much better. Please note I'm not saying they're bad, I'm also not saying they're worse, I'm just saying you pay a lot extra for little extra value.

The manufacturers have to get their money back from all they put in to keep riders on the pro circuits.
