HI Guys,

I am predominately a road cyclists and have spent Lots of money on set-ups and getting the correct size parts for my road bike. I recently have started racing my MTB and now i am looking at going through the steps of getting the right set up done for my MTB. I was thinking of doing this my self as i have the correct dimensions for my road bike. Can anyone tell me if the same dimensions of my road bike can be used for my MTB or do they require a new set of rules if so what are these? smiley5.gif

I have been professionally set up and the leg and saddle positions were done the same. It is only your upper body that differs.

I felt so awkward for the first couple of rides as my saddles was raised about 15 mm and I felt as if I was rding on stilts. Fell very good now. Cant say I'm any faster though.Embarrassed

You can not go according to the sizes like S, M or L because a M Raleigh is not the same as a L somthing else. I was quite amazed to find out that my two bike's cockpits, measured horizontal from middle of seatpost seatpost to middle of handlebars, are almost the same.

Dirtbreath: could you tell me in what way the horizontal/upper body positions changes?

Mampara: What is the slight difference between your road and MTB in relation of the distance between the middle of your handle bar to the middle of your seat post?   Deep Section2008-11-03 00:29:43

I bought the smallest mtb frame I could fit into, but I made sure that when I got onto my mtb it felt like i'm on my road bike. (same distances btw parts) and I use the same saddle too. The single most important for me was to get the same pedaling position in connetion to the bottom bracket,( u dont want to be peddling ontop of your bb or too far back.

On my FS MTB the distance is 5mm shorter. But on my HT (19" M) Raleigh which was an inch smaller then the (20" L) FS it was actually 10mm longer. If that makes sense.
