Does anyone have any comments or opinions on this MTB? I can get a 2008 model, brand new, for R3280. Or should i let this one go and look further? Here is a pic from the net.

This mongoose was my first mtb. It performed no prob- just a bit heavy (about 14kgs). Comfortable riding position as it is very upright, but for technical stuff and singletrack I would get something with different geometry. I upgraded to this: I have felt a massive difference in handling. My raliegh is a lot nippier!

It's not bad for an entry level bike. If you can afford better spec, get better spec. If not, this one will do.

Im no professional but i have been after doing some research on entry level MTB's and im pretty sure you can do better...

 

From what i have been told those shocks are pretty useless and are not worth a lot.

 

I have also been told to stay away from mechanical discs as they cause more trouble than they are worth and a good set of Vee's will be better in the long run.

 

Why not look at Solomons www.solomons.co.za in PTA? they have a number of good bikes and although it is far (depending on where you live obviously) you will find a bargain there.  Why not look at a trek 4500, A gt avalanch or an entry level merida?

 

Im pretty sure they will be better bikes in the long run.
