I don't have any experience with soft sole shoes but logic tells me it might create a hotspot over longer distances or not so?? any1 experience this?

Yip it will not do for longer races .

I won't lie - i did get slight hot foot when i did the cradle quest (220 odd km). Nothing that serious though. All i did was just turn the crank and got the blood back to my right foot for 15secs or so.

Nothing hectic

My 10c worth.

When i start mtb'ing i got hard soled shoes. They look lekker fancy when riding but walking over rocks stuff & walking in general - they ***. The studs hurt my feet after walking a bit & they slip on rocks.

I recently got a lekker pair of Adidas on special for like 500 ZAR Ronds.

They look just like takkies. Flipping comfy' date=' nice to walk in & super to ride in. You can even wear them to the shops & any non cyclist would not know the difference.

So i have both & the softer takkie type shoe is the SHIZ NIZZ aka "the business"

that's a good price for those shoesClapbut i would worry about laces in wetter races.

If you look carefully - there is a flap on the tongue of the shoe that the laces tuck into. Clever designer.

They were not good enough - cos you over took me!

I have to say that I am not to keen on shoes with laces and losing interest in the softer takkie type shoe as well from all the posts here.

I use the Olympic Adveture shoes

They have laces plus a velcro strap.

Never had any problems with them, wet or dry.

Comfortable and easy to walk in. Reasonable grippy soles too. I have rock hopped across many streams with bike over the shoulder. No problem.

I have SPD pedals on my hybrid (which is my road bike) too, so I use them on the road as well (If you are not racing for top spot, you do not need road specific shoes).

I experience hot feet once towards the end of a 88km road ride a year ago, but I think this has more to do with my feet that the shoe.  Improvised a "metatarsal button" from cardboard cut outs attached to the insole. Problem solved.

Spud - I got a mate who did epic 2 years ago with his sportmans warehouse olympics.

He then got Louis Garneau shoes becaue his olymics are not brand name'ish enough. They lasted a couple months - then back to the same pair of olympics. He then got shimano takkie type shoes. They are almost dead now too.

His brother still wears the same olymics 3 years later that he too got for the epic.

Now thats value for money.

Go with the Olympics for sure. Sole is stiff yet flexible enough to not stuff up your feet. And the last and last and last....why care about brand names if it is value for money that count these days...?Clap
