Delgado, bud. Barry Sheene had more steel plate than bone in his body towards the end of his carreer. He was quite the rider in his time.

Wonder how he would have gone on a "push bike" in the tour though.

That Colnago of yours still looking so beautiful?

If I recall, Jim Clarke used the number 7 on his Lotus just before he won world championship status. (But then again, that is a quote from a questionable memory.)

Ever heard of "7 minute abs"...???

7 must have some mystical significance...

Biblically, it represents the number of perfection.

In tennis, often the 7th game results in service break.

I consider it my"lucky" number although I never bet on anything unless I know I will win the bet.

Depends on how superstitious you are. Anyhow, we digress. I'm with Trubie. Who wants to fall seven times. Luckily / fortunately most (if not all) of my falls have been at low / slow speeds, under 5 km per hour.

Bela Bela had almost 900 finishers' date=' at least two pro teams, so no prob there.

I suggest if you wanna improve your seeding, seriously consider doing the Carousel race on 10 Aug.

Lekker fast and relatively flat, so easy race for improving seeding/getting a nice seeding - try it, you will thank me later

Excuse me butting in from JHB North but the above is good advice. Nice flat race similar profile to Bela Bela with a small bump at the turn around. The big advantage for seeding is that the pro's do a longer 150km race so seeding times are calculated relative to the next fastest which is usually 30-39.

All helps when you are looking for that extra 0.5% on the seeding index smiley2.gif.

For those who haven't done this race yet, here are some details:

Date/Time: Mon, 7 Aug 07:00

Distance: 152, 110, 70, 10

Start: Carousel Entertainment Centre, Pretoria North

Just not sure where to enter for it (Nothing on cyclelab.co.za)

Special treatment by way of a goodie bag and discounted entry  fees - so I guess none for the blokes?

Trubie, morning Bud. Prince indeed. That is serious equipment and way out of my league, budget-wise as well as being serious overkill for one of my limited ability.

It would be like using a cricket bat to kill mosquitos. It will do the job but rolled up news paper will too. So, maybe I have progressed from rolled up news paper to who knows where.

I jumped her saddle for a 28 k ride yesterday arvie. Still had full on automatic geras which drove me scatty. (Or is that rode me scatty?) Got home to find that one link of the chain is "Sticky / Stiff" so a bit of fiddling about and a good clean and lube sorted that problem.

Despite the automatic gearbox, I still improved my previous best for that route by 55 seconds.

Now the question is, how have I got faster? Is it the shoes? Is it the new lighter frame? Or is it a combination of frame and shoes?

I tend to lean in the direction of the frame being the most likely.

Its not about the bike dude, its you its you its you, getting better and stronger, the added benefit of a new steed, shoes etc makes you feel soo much better and obviously makes you ride better aswell

Ahhh, so it's all in the head then? Or is it the legs? Maybe both. (Rhetorical question dude.)

I was looking at my training log last night and was apalled. BEcause it gets dark earlier now, I have shortened my week rides and for the last few weeks, I have only done the short loop.

Having entered the Fountains, I need to get some mileage in the legs and do some hills and definitely some good interval training.

So, I got to thinking, I need to go long on Saturday with the fast dudes. Try and hang on as far as possible. Sunday, Kid and I are going on a later ride. Meet at 8. Are we going to do intervals or go long? Who else is going to join us?

Next weekend, I was thinking we do the Nature reserve. (my gearing is ill suited but it can only make the legs stronger. Biggest cog is 22 on the back.)

Anyone in for a ride around SBR? Saturday or Sunday?

I agree 100%, Slave it is all about the engine driving the bike, not the bike! Enjoy your new-found speed!
