Welcome to the south Ewan.

Hope you enjoy your stay. Riding will be great though!!

There is a rather active and advanced group that rides from the cnr of Swartkoppies and Klipriver roads (Next to a quad track called Xumbugs) every morning @ 5:15.

They usually do the Nampak loop which is about 45-50k's long depending on where you start from the meeting place. Ave speed about - 33

Then on sat & sundays there are varoius groups that start from the same place @ 7:00. They ride the same or other routes, which can be up to 100k's long.

If you dont feel like early morning rides, contact Slave - he normally rides little later, and will be around for the period. I am back on 5th, then we can make a plan if you so wish.

Paul - 082 556 8807

Whatever you do, dont ride alone  - unfortunately some bike jackings recently...

You could always head out to the most awesome place to ride a road bike! It is called Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve or SBR. Just go down the N3 towards Durban. Just after the Total Petrol Station there is an offramp. Take it and then turn RIGHT. Keep going until you see the Suikerbosrand Protea Hotel sign. Turn LEFT. Gates open at 7am. R20 per car plus R10 per person. One full loop is about 57km.

Lotsa bike jackings on the steps so do not venture out there alone.

If memory serves, the groups leave at 7 on public holidays as well an there may be enough to get a group going from next week onwards at 7 in the mornings.

You are welcome to join us Ewan. I will PM my mobile number for you to get in touch with me.

HAd a really cool ride yesterday. (No pun intended. It was windy and th wind was realy cool, almost cold.) Anyway, the neighbur and I headed out at about 4h45 pm into some hectic wind. We were going to do the Mondeor loop but the weather looked like it would intervene in thos plans so we cut it very short.

Going along Swartkoppies towards Alberton from Klipriver, a mobile crane came past. Just the sort of vehicle to shield one from the wind. I managed to hang on all the way from Klipriver right up to just before Hennie Alberts. I have never climbed that section of road so fast in all the rides I've done there. It was awesome to just draft behind at an average of about 38. Hurt like h3ll, but what a ride. One of those eyeball popping things that make cycling so much fun.

At least I got in a very decent speed interval.

Hi Ewan,

Couple of us getting together to do SBR on Sunday.

Are you still keen Andy for 1 good loop?

I am thinking of heading out to SBR right now for a ride after reading Slaves report smiley16.gif

Just finished a full loop in SBR in 2:14:25 smiley20.gif.

Rode with 39/53 front and 12/23 back and had to do lots of OOTSR (out of the saddle riding).

Recon you going to hurt me on Sunday Andy. Will try and recover before then.

Kieran the only way one get stronger is to ride outside your comfort zone smiley20.gif

Anyone doing a ride Sat?

If not I might just do SBR on the MTB???

To everyone taking a break have a good one and we will sure all meet up in Jan, drive and ride safe.

That is a good time!!!

No ways! You rode today and you riding tomorrow and you have ridden many times since our last outing there with Kid, Kieran and Nance so you going to hurt me!

I will wear my CSC kit again on Sunday.

See you then!
