I have been offered a Trek 1200 for what I think is a reasonble price.

I think it might be a little small though, Its a medium (54CM) and I am 1.74m.

Any advice, should I be looking at a 56cm?

go get yourself measured properly' date=' but I am exactly 1.74 as well and I rode a 54 raleigh. 56 is going to be too big. (I think )[/quote']

If this is a road bike...

 I'm 1.75 and I have a 54. Many moons ago I rode a 56cm and it felt big-ish

Scratch around on the free fitting links @ http://www.cyclemetrics.com/Pages/FitLinks/bike_fit_links.htm

Just remember the numbers are only a guide, not the gospel so if it does not feel right it ain't right!

not gospel' date=' but personal belief is to lean to the small side.[/quote']

I'm no guru (Not even CLOSE), but I concur. Less metal / plastic carbon fibre to lug around?

I would go 52cm even! depending on your age, older guys need smaller frames, lower back stiffens up with age. I'm 1.85 and 56 cm is my sizeJPW#2008-12-16 08:41:43

Length is NOT the only determining criteria. Inseam lenghts, posture, arm lenght and age (as mentioned) and a myriad other items come to play.

Have yourself measured by a competent person that uses the proper instruments to measure.

i am 1.74 cm i measure 56cm because of my inseam length but i ride a 54 because i have a short torso

so go get yourself measured and remember get your LBS to do your upper body reach because you dont want to go and get a 54cm and have to ride with the saddle post at the frame and a 160mm stem or the opposite if you have long legs and short body
