Hi,

 

I have a Cross Mark LUST tubeless at the rear, it's about 9 months old. I saw for the first time today it has "bubbles" - see the pics below.

 

I just came back from a ride - and one of the bubbles punctured. The funny thing - even with the tyre deflated - the bubbles are still there... The pics below were taken with a flat tyre.

 

Has anyone seen something similar ?

Nope - the bubbles are all over the tyre - they don't seem to be aligned with the spokes. They are also only on the one side.

 

They feel like trapped air pockets - it's like it has air between the "tyre casing" and the "tread". I think that also explains why the bubbles remain even if the tyre is flat

Had the same problem with a Kenda Karma about year ago . The air does actaully go in between the outside and inside lining of the tyre . Got my tyre swopped out by LBS .

Hi Black Jack

Exactly the same thing happened with me today .My cross marks are a month old and today the back tire bubbled and punctured I took the tire to the LBS they will send it to the supplier ,If I hear anything I will reply on this thread .

You don't say whether or not this is a tubeless conversion or just plain UST. It is pretty common on tubeless conversions where air can escape into the casing and form the types of bubbles you see.

 

I cure it by ironing out the bubbles (massage them 'till they gone) and then paint the interior of the tyre with latex (Gorilla snot, Stan's or any other similar latex-based sealant) and let that dry before doing the tuberless conversion over again.

 

It is pretty understandable that that should happen with standard tubed tyres but in UST tyres, unforgivable and cause for a gaurantee replacement. With the price of MTB tyres it is simply not something you should tolerate.

Back: Crossmark Lust UST tubeless with stan's conversion and sealant.

 

A mate and myself had the exact same thing with the bubbles forming generally on the same side of the tyre with no particular noticible pattern.  We first noticed it at around 8 months into using it and the tyre is well worn outside and inside(seems like there is a reaction with the sealant).

 

This needs to be confirmed but aparently Maxxis dont guarentee the tyre if you use a sealant. Cant remember if this is what ive read or someone told me.

I heard from a reputable MTB shop in Cape Town that bubbles form from using tyre sealant, and some manufacturer's actually warn about using sealants, as it affects the rubber, and therefore because you have been warned, there will be no warranty replacement...

I posted the same topic a while back. This is a frequent problem with these tyres. Get your bike shop to take them back and exchange them or give you a rebate for the mileage left on them. They will tell you about this incompatible sealant or the other but I dont buy that. Something about being amonia based.

I had the same problem - a huge bubble on the front wheel - not nice going fast downhill. My LBS said it was a problem with the layers seperating, and air getting between them. Think this is why the link to the sealants come from - the sealant does not allow the air to leak back into the tyre. Theoretically you could pierce the bubble and their should be no problem - I just replaced the tyre.....

Thanks for all the feedback.

 

I took it to the bike shop this morning - and they said the same thing about the Amonia. Technically I can accept it making sense - however - it defeats a bit the purpose of a tubeless tire, as to me one of the main advantages of going tubeless is you can fit a whole bottle of stans in there :)

 

Never the less - I went for a Conti (cannot remember which one)

 

In general - What is the concensus on using a non-tubeless tire as a tubeless ?
