  1. It is obvious that there are a lot of things you don't understand. If there is a need to explain it then we can assume you will still not understand it. Beer would be nice afterwards.
  2. And don't forget that this thieves (some call them government) also want you to register your backup generator and pay for it's usage. Next they will want to TAX UPS devices.
  3. Normally when you build a SS you do it with the spares you got lying around. In your case it happens to be a 26 V-brake frame , then that is what you must use. There are no rules when building a SS except for it should not have GEARS. 26 Vbrake would be awesome although not as cool as a 26 back pedal setup.
  4. Getting to Peregrine is a problem. I am unable to find a route (besides the N2) from the Gordonsbay side. Will go and look at Tracks4Africa for a possible alternative route.
  5. Sorry to high-jack your discussion but anybody know if you can go around Steenbras dam (Gordonsbay area) and then cut across to the Kleinmond side without trespassing ?
  6. Finally moved back to Slaapstad but after 15 years not to sure what's still around . One of my favorite spots use to be Lebanon , this still an option ?
  7. Hi everybody Let's me start by thanking Vetseun and his family for their hospitality. Not only is he a demon on the bike, he also knows his way around the Braai. Now for the race. I was felling good when race started and did my normal slow start planning to put longer hours in. After the first waterpoint (30km) I joined a group of 4 and we plodded along nicely when all of a sudden I got attacked by cramps from all sides. I have never cramped before but knew I had to keep going and ride/walk it off. At next WP I loaded up on food, pills, drinks, gels and wherever else I could find. At 120km sore throat and a bloody ear pain made my ride miserable. Two strepsels in Medical kit help me to at least swallow my drinks and bars. Could not keep going for longer than 30 minutes and started alternating between cycling, walking and lying next to the road. At CP1 no power. GPS dead, power bank depleted and phone on 10%. Medic took my power bank to another station to charge and later return it. As many may know, I get lost going to the loo!!! Now I had to use the tracking skills I acquired at RASA. This slowed me down even more, I had a turtle running past me at one point. MY condition did not improve and the SMS from home had very clear instructions. 'stop now before we call race office'. That is why I am sitting by the pool now feeling sorry for myself.
  8. When I started this 20+ years ago it was totally unacceptable to enter an event with Flats . Rock up with flats and you start in the Z batch because you deemed a newbie . Those years flats with straps was still acceptable but you had to be "one" with the bike . Not knowing any better we all did what was deemed "acceptable" normal behavior . After giving away all my geared bikes I soon realized that doing races like the Magalies Monster or Transbaviaans cleated in was just no making any sense and also tried the flat option . It then dawned on me that you actually do not want to be part of the bike , you want to be free !! So eggbeaters , spd's , Look and all kinds of other pedals found new homes . But even in the FLAT Pedal society I found that fashion is also more than just a statement and I got the proper shoes for the job . Those shoes also found a new home very soon and now it is just me , the bike , my Hi-Tech tekkies and the trail . People say to me , if you cleat in you might actually do a sub 3 Argus !! Maybe but my 03:04 suites me just fine thank you .
  9. Years ago I also fell for all this market hype until like somebody already mentioned I asked the question why would a pedal bike cost more than a small car !!!! R&D and all the other explanations does not add up so I came to the conclusion that we are being ripped off !! At that stage most of my friends already saw the light and moved back to what a bicycle should be , two wheels with handle bar and a seat . Now everybody is shouting blue murder !!!! What can you do with a steel , single speed bike without shocks , Forks and carbon seatpost bolts !!! Well the short answer is you have twice the fun doing whatever you choose to do on your bike . Been almost 15 years that I have enjoy the freedom of xtra cash , little maintenance , silence and rattle free etc . But I assume some people feel the need to have to pay for happiness .
  10. Ai dit is baie slegte nuus . Sal hom mis op die RASA route . Sterkte aan familie en vriende .
  11. Woman are tough , get her 36/16 and then hang on .
  12. Nice tactic to get people not to enter so you will be able to get an entry !!!
  13. I started of using the road past Diepsloot via Kyalami but will not recommend it . That nice dirt road next to the the R55 has become a Taxi lane ONLY and after a very close call on the dirt with a Taxi I decided to use the route through Samrand
  14. MTB , I would never do that on a road bike . Taxi's will get you .
  15. I think there is a tar road running through that open land now . I assume it's the bit where you had to cross a little stream to get into the veld
  16. Always solo . It took me Well over an hour , once you hit SAndton the going gets very slow and I did it on the SS which also slowed me down .
  17. I use to cycle from Centurion using that same route all the way to Sandton . If you stay of the road (next to it) it will be fine although there are a lot of pedestrians between Olifantfontein and Samrand . And then you have to contend with all the intersection crossings ! Loads of them and a few you need to be a skilled bunny hopper to clear the pavement .
  18. Even if it is just a single speed , if you going to build one it is worth doing it well .
  19. Look at the fork that Rapide offers . Very nice .
  20. We know you can do it but it is just wrong !!!
  21. Again if you want to do it properly you will look at a rigid fork . Suspension forks on a SS just seems wrong .
  22. The you put gears on it and hang it somewhere in a corner where nobody can see it .
