They are good value for money. Hubs do not engage as fast as Kings or Industry Nine's, but for the money you can't complain. Easy servicable, versatile and long-lasting. What more do you want?

They ALWAYS get good reviews and have several wheelset awards. Those are XC orientated and the 4.2's and as light or bullit proof as Stan's Olympics, but they'll do the job. I say go for it.

Oh, and they have a killer free-hub sound.

That's how quickly...hmmm...To put it in laymans terms: that's how quickly the hub & therefor wheel turns when you stomp on the pedal.

A hub has pawls that "engage" the drive system.

Am I explaining this correct JB?

From the CK website:

"All of our rear hubs utilize our patented RingDrive? engagement mechanism. RingDrive? uses 72 engagement teeth on each drive ring. That means the hub engages over 3 times quicker than the standard 24 tooth pawl-type freehub. Trying to get started again in the middle of a steep uphill section? Going for the surprise jump to drop your buddies? This unique design offers instant and positive engagement that's capable of handling a torque load of over 800ft/lbs, or over three times more than most other high end hubs we've tested. It is the heart of our hub and all the rest is built around it."

Industry Nine's engage faster though.

Paul, the XR4.2 is a lightweight XC rim and its soft.

I had my DT 240s hubs built onto XR4.2's with Revolution spokes. A pure lightweight XC combination. My rear rim lasted just 6 months before I had it replaced. Rather go for the XR4.1 which is slightly heavier but a lot stronger.
