RST Gila Service

I have a mongoose mtb with RST Gila T6 shocks. I want to service them but can't find any help on the internet. Has anyone attempted this before? Can I get a seal kit for these shocks?

Definately a budget fork, although it has lock out etc... I speak under correction but I think it's coil one side and elastomer the other.

I've often heard theough that generally the fork should be discarded instead bothering to service it.

Now's your chance to learn how forks work. If someone says it can't be done, it simply means they don't feel like doing it.

 

Remove the bottom two cap screws using a 6mm allen key. Don't turn them all the way out. Give each one a smart tap with a wooden mallet or block of wood and hammer. Now unscrew them and pull out. Oil may or may not pour out.

Now pull hard on the slider. It will separate from the uppers (stanchions). Oil may or may not pour out. Dont do this in the lounge.

 

Now remove the two plastic crown bolts with a 24mm socket. Pull the springs out.

 

Clean everything and grease what was greased before and re-assemble from the top down. Just  before you replace the bottom bolts, inject 10ml of the thinnest car oil you have in your garage or 10-wt fork oil if you have, into the bottom capscrew holes and return the capscrews.

 

Go for a ride. Total time: 30 minutes excluding searching for a syringe, oil and some grease.

 

Forms are not cheap, don't toss it.
