Hello there,

I own 2008 Giant Trance X1 and have been doing a lot of riding since

getting the bike at the beginning of December(+-1500 kilometers) in the

last week an odd sound has developed when the suspension is compressed,

it is a ticking noise which transfers energy through the frame and can

actually be felt through the grips or anywhere else on the frame, it is

worse when propedal (Rp2) is on. I have investigated the seat and all

other usual culprits but it seems the noise is generated either from

the top or bottom of the rp2.Perhaps it could be the bushings on their

way out?

Any input would be greatly appreciated guys and girls.

PS: Bike is not under warranty...

I doubt anything should have worn out with only 1500kms on the clock, more likely dirt in between the frame and bushings, or potentially a lose pivot point (a friend had a similar noise/feeling on his Marathon 6, was a lose pivot point), etc.

Time to remove the bolts holding the shock in place, make sure the surfaces are nice and clean, I like a very small bit of grease on the surface of the bushings. Very small amount so as not to be exposed to dust and dirt. Then tighten up the bolts and test. If the noise is still there move onto the pivot points.

I had an older model Trance (not with the RP2 shocK) that also developed this clicking noise. Checked all forums and after checking and replacing bushings, etc the sound was still there.

The only other reason for this what I could source from one or other forum was that there was an issue with the "shim stack" within the shock - apparently some of them had this issue and it does not affect the shocks performance just makes it freaking irritating.

Maybe some RP2s suffer from the same problem

its either the bushings or maybe check out the spacers on the BB..... I found one that was cracked once on my bike.... as soon as presure is put on the bike the cracks move against each other and a noise is generated..... if not that it wil most likely be on the pivot points somewhere....

Allways a tricky one to sort out.

If it were my bike, I would start with a little WD40 on all the picot points to see if that solves the problem, it could just be a tiny bit og grit and grime.

I have a 2007 Anthem (RP2 Shock). It really is a great bike, but also seem prone to all sorts of strange sounds.(clicking nocking ect) When my bike starts making noises, I normally give it a lovely wash, re lube, bit of WD40 on all pivots, wipe down the frame with a oily rag, and 9 times out of 10 this solves the issue.

Good Luck

Had a similar problem on my old bike. Turned out it was the BB. Took me long enough to source as it would only click when I stood up.

Not saying it is but might be something to check out.

Hello all,

Thanks for all the swift input Clap. I have tried lubing the pivot points with a bit of white lightning which did not make any difference, I haven't attempted to take the pivots apart because I don't have a torque wrench for tightening them again when finished.

I am going on an out ride later with the LBS mechanic (Aka: Bike whisperer) Ill see what he says about it and let you guys know.

I sure hope it's not some internal shock issueDead as money seems to be harder and harder to come by nowadays.

Thanks again...

Dunno if this might help....

I had a 2008 Trance X1. It once had a creaking noise too and it drove me insane. I did EVERYTHING. Pivots, BB, Shocks, chain, cluster, etc. In the end, the solution was so simple: Near the dropout, there is a grub screw, attaching the dropout to the rear triangle (see pic). If this grub screw runs dry, it will squeak every time pressure is applied to the rear triangle, e.g. pedalling, shock compression... Try removing the grub and lubing it with copperslip before putting it back. It worked for my bike!
