Does foldable Racing Ralph work when used tubeless

Recommended Posts

I would like to know if anybody is using non-UST foldable Racing Ralph with tubeless conversion kits.  <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

1) What slug/goo/green stuff works well?

2) Any problem  such as weak side walls?

3) General handling/wear feedback would also be appreciated.

They work fine and seal perfectly, I used Joes rim strips and stans fluid. The downside is I ripped up the rear tyre in no time, the biggest problem seems to be the thin side walls don't handle a 85kg carcase on a hardtail.

I still have my Ralph on the front and currently a LUST Larsen TT on the back. I'm thinking about getting a UST Racing Ralph from CRC because I really like the tyres.

Handling is awesome, good at shedding mud as well. The back tyre also wore very, very quickly. I was also tearing the blocks of the rear. I think this was from heavy braking, very strange as I use the front brakes a lot more.

Mine are working like a dream. Handle well. Seem quite strong as well, although I thought the sidewalls would be quite soft when I looked at them. Been pleasantly surprised. Like mark says, they shed the mud well. My wear has been good, although they do wear quite quick on the road.

the short answer is YES.

we have been doing tubeless conversions for over 4 years with all the Schwalbe tyres.

1) have used Stans, latex and Schwalbe Doc Blue *

2) the side walls are NOT weak. they are 127EPI, much more than most other tyres.

In our experience, the problem is with the tackiness of the sidewall rubber. While the tyre is still new (first few rides), the sidewall are very grippy and tend to hold onto objects rather than knock them out of the way. Once the tackiness is gone, this issue is solved. We suggest before the first ride that you rub sand or baby powder on the sidewalls to eliminate the tackiness. Alternatively, the Racing Ralph is availble with Snakeskin side wall protection.

3) Handing is very good esp the 26x2.25. Because it is a race tyre, weight reduction is a priority. therfore there is not as much rubber on these tyres. However it is a triple compound tyre with the centre blocks being made of the hardest of the compounds, so they do last quite well.?

I see from the latest releases of other tyres in the range that training versions are avaialble (heavier versions with less technical compounds) I am sure there will be a Racing Ralph in this soon too.?

*Schwalbe recommends the use of Doc Blue only
