There's a big difference between a good match (as in colour and looks) and a good QR.

QRs should have skewers made of steel, the nut should have a steel insert and the cam should be inside a housing. All others are a compromise.

If you don't know what all this means, have a look at a Shimano or Campag QR.

Johan's right, although it's nice to have matching components, it is better to have skewers that does what they are suppose to do - keep the wheels on the bike...

...on a related matter, I understand that you are "The Man" when it comes to wheel technology and such. penny for your thoughts. I crashed and damaged my Bontrager aluminium wheels leaving them buckled and scratched. My local shop straightened and retensioned the spokes but they reckon the wheels will never be 100% straight and as a result not work as well as they used to. Is this correct or are they blowing smoke where I dont wnat it in order to sell me something?

If a rim is bent, which is difficult to see unless all the spokes are first slackened, the wheel will never be the same again. You cannot achieve a perfect wheel with a bent rim since spokes are not designed to pull a rim straight, only to pull it true....if you can imagine the difference.

However, some wheels with bent rims are acceptably straight (if not perfect) and last a long time nevertheless.

At worst, the wheel will have a buckle that's just impossible to remove and at best, the wheel will be straight but the spoke tension not even. The latter is not serious.

As your bike shop if he first slackened all the spokes before ascertaining if the rim was bent or not.
