  1. Try Dirtwash - Disc Brake Cleaner Spray. It's R125 @ CWC.
  2. Been riding with the Shimano 540's for 3 years now, no problems. You can adjust the tension on them which is nice. I prefer to ride with low tension to get my feet out for the occasional unplanned stop.
  3. Mine did the same on a new rotor and disk pads, took the bike to CWC and they cleaned the rotor for me. Noise and vibration gone. Must say it's not nice going downhill with brakes squealing like nails on a black board.
  4. So it's still cheaper to join Tygerberg MTB club for R250 per year and the Contermanskloof permit for R350, total R600. And you can make use of the green belt from Majik to Hillcrest.
  5. He's obviously a firm believer of the motto: "If all else fails, use a BIGGER hammer"
  6. Agree, the Louis Garneau Evolution are very nice.
  7. Used a pair of Diadora MTB shoes for 10 years - no knee problems. Replaced them with Shimano MTB shoes, now my knee and ITB is acting up. Shimano shoes sole is pressing against the pedal and prevents the float on the cleat to work freely, thinking about doing some artificial wear and tear.
  8. It looks real funny to have roasties only on your fingers after using your hands to stop yourself and the bike
  9. There's more than one Plentipotential out on the road. Wonder sometimes if the roadies hands are glued to the handle bars?
  10. the quality of the rim has absolutely nothing to do with how well a wheel is build. JB will give you a lifetime warrantee on his wheels that he build with those rims. Remember' date=' each rim has its own limits. For example, you can not expect a lightweight wheel/rim to handle drop-offs and jumps.[/quote'] I agree, the wheel build is important. Although the quality of the different parts will play a role (rim / hub / spokes).
  11. I have DRC MT17 on my second set of wheels used for training. They work pretty OK for XC riding. Only had to re-align them once so far in 3 years. Don't think they will handle any serious drop-offs / jumps though?
  12. The RavX works just as well.
  13. I agree. Also do my price comparisons using CRC, but in more than 70% of the cases my local LBS (CWC ) is cheaper and it is a lot easier to get service from them if something is not to my satisfaction - AND so far I have only received very good service from them.
  14. I've been riding with contact lenses for more than 10 years. No issues. Sunglasses helps to keep most of the direct wind out of your eyes - wind tends to dry your eyes out quicker with contacts in. Did the Ama Rider 100 miler - with all the rain you could not see through sunglasses and even then the contacts worked fine.
  15. Depends on what you want to use it for, the Polar is very nice, but as far as I know it does not have GPS.
