Good morning hubbers,

Need some help. My father is looking to upgrade his roadbike. He is not sure whether it is better to buy a new bike or just upgrade frame and handlebar, etc.

He is looking at the BMC SLT01 but deems it a bit expensive. Are there any other frames worth having a look at? Are there any full carbon bikes with 105 or eqivalent components to look at?

Also, what is a reasonable price to ask for his bike - Raleigh RC3000 (2005, blue), size L, 10 speed 105 groupset with Tiagra brake calipers, front derailleur and crank. Shimano WH550 wheelset.

Thanks for any help in this regard.

Look forward to some interesting posts.

Let us look at a few questions.....

what is his budget,  better still what is he prepared to pay.

There is a Stevens full carbon on the Hub for R17k.  It is a little extreme offer him R13k.

Or you can post a request on the hub asking for bikes for sale.

I just sold my son's Super6 for R15k complete race wheels and Polar CS 200.

So there are bargains out there.  just be prepared to wait them out.  Think with your head and not your heart.

You can always keep the STI's and upgrade the components as you go.  A solis frame Should cost you R8k.  Buy a decent set of race wheels and he is good to go.   I have a set of Ultegra calipers you can have for R500.  in good condition.

Hope this answers some of your questions... good luck

LOL Sammajoor, you're funny!

Samson99, the good and bad news is the market is in a bad way now, so you're not going to get much for your bike, even considering the upgrades.

You're probably looking at between R3000 & R4000.

But thats also the good news...

You're bound to find a really good deal too.

If you go with a "boutique" brand like BMC, you're going to pay alot for an entry level spec'd bike.

But if you look second hand, something a bit more sought after, like Scott, Specialised, Raleigh etc. You'll get a lot more bang for your buck.

There are lots of good deals on thehub right now, and some sellers are very reputable.
