I have a full racing licence and the missus a cyclosport.

As far as I understand, I am allowed to drop back in a race category but I'm not allowed to compete for position in the category. I know my wife and I as a team will never win a cat, but what if I have a strong stoker who also only has a cyclosprt and we are able to win the cat?

PS: for those that didn't catch my drift...I was talking about riding tandem specificallyWinkBig%20smile

Correct me if I am wrong.....

Tandems are seeded according to ability (seeding index) and not if you have a license or not.

If the race is big enough then the tandems are split into two groups...ie "racing" tandems and "social" tandems.

Aren't racing tandem bunch usually the guys with the full licence and the social tandems the guys with the cyclosport/recreational licence?

Nope. It's based purely on the seeding index of the riders.

No licenses required.

My wife and I were seeded "racing tandems" at the Argus and she is a non cyclist.....she does not even own a timing chip!

With a cyclosport you can opt to race lic in most races as well, just fill in your cyclosport lic details in the online box and viola, you get seeded lic.

AFAIK, the only restriction on CycloSport is that you can't race provincials or

nationals. All other events are OK.

Just a bit of clarification on your first post.

As a licensed rider, you can drop back down the categories.

In addition, as long as you start with the group you have elected

to race with, you can still contest the race.

I had an incident around this issue this two years ago and it was

escalated to the National Road Racing Commissaire.

Licensed riders cannot be discriminated against in the open

categories.

I know this caused some unhappiness in the Open As at the R4S

this weekend, but the Elite riders the guys were complaining about

were allowed to race with the Open As and contest the race as they

started with them.

There is a lot of confusion about this as people seem to think that

licensed riders are not allowed to race in the open categories.

Whether it is fair or not is another issue...

True but then in races where there is financial reward for open cats you find lic riders that dont ever shape dropping back just to contest.

On the flip side you get riders that struggle against blue rinse grannies on shopping bikes electing to ride lic cats for the early start.

All perfectly legal, just not cricket.
