A good rule or 2 to remember with clips...

Dont panic and pull up' date=' twist the heel outwards to unclip (most cleats)

Momentum is everything, never stop pedaling untill the correct foot is unclipped.

Maybe ask these guys for advice:
Got it on good authority that Siddell is bowling with a hot spot on his foot and a fractured toe!! Therein perhaps lies the difference!! Cometh the hour ...cometh the Aussies!!

everybody i spoke to said i must practise first. that is exactly what i will do. i dont want to struggle on race day..i want to cycle on race day!!! not worry about cleats! it is afterall offroad..vigna a vigna lourensford farm for those living in somerset west. it falls with the last day of cape epic that also finishes there...

but thanks all!!!!!!!!!

I remember when I first got cleated shoes. Slapped on the pedals, put on the shoes, climbed on the bike (still in the garage leaning against the wall) clipped in and admired my handiwork. Started leaning over, only to instantaneously panic and fall over on the floor. But you learn quick and it soon becomes routine. And you *almost" always unclip during a crash. Its the "coming unclipped when you're railing singletrack" part that gets dangerous.

Do the race in your cleats, it will hugely boost your confidence!
