alternating cassettes vs chains ..

Just wondering ....... have oftened heard of guys say buying new cluster, chainrings and 2 chains then alternating between the chains every so many kilometers and that helps extend the life of all sorts .....

Now what happens if you have a new chain and chainrings and use 2 sets of wheels starting with a new cassette on each? The wheels are sort of rotated by training on one set and racing on the others.

Getting myself confused but just wondering what problems you could see and if it does extend the life of anything in the drivetrain or in fact might shorten it?

It won't help you at all.

1+1+1+1 =4 and;

2+2 = 4 and;

1 1/2 + 1/2 +1 +1 =4

Just keep on measuring your chain and replace it before it reaches its limit.  That way you'll get maximum use out of your sprockets.
