Garmin Forerunner & Polar G3

This is a more specific question than the usual Garmin vs Polar debate.

I looked at the Garmin Forerunner 405 but the battery life is ridiculously short. Apparently only 8 hours. If that is the case not even Raynard Tissink would be able to use it for the Ironman. Can anyone confirm this? And also does the whole watch go dead after 8 hours meaning you have to get to a charger in order to see the time again?

The other option for purposes of triathlon / Ironman is the Polar R800cx with the G3 GPS. Except for the size of the G3 unit, how long does the battery last as I also heard it averages 15 hours on 1 x AA battery. It might take me longer to finish the Ironman (hopefully not) which means this is also not going to work. Does the G3 work well in the swimming leg? I see there's an option on a lithium-iron battery but can't find more info on it.

Any experts here??

How is the polar GPS working? Would you recommend it? I am currently looking at the RS300X G1.
