A mate of mine is looking to convert his threaded 1" heatset to a threadless setup......

Is this possible

Is it advisable (safety etc)

If Q1 is "Yes" the how does one go about doing it?

Yes it is possible. One can get threadless 1 inch headsets. However, he'll have to replace his threaded fork with a new one. He may still get away with a threaded fork but the existing one will be cut too short.

It it advisable? Why bother? I'd say. If he has continuous problems with a frozen stem, then simply put one of those converters in there and use the threaded setup with a threadless stem.

How to go about it?

1) Find a new 1 inch threadless fork.

2) Find a threadless 1 inch headset.

3) Find a threadless 1 inch stem and spacers.

Install as normal with threadless setups.

I think finding the components will be more difficult than the conversion itself. 1 inch components have fallen out of favour for more beefier 1 1/8th and 1 1/4 inch stuff.
