The Anthem X is the 2009 incarnation of the Anthem from 2008 and before.

The shape of the tubing is slightly different. The rear travel has gone from 3.5" to 4.0". Head angle has gone from 72 to 71 degrees and of course the shock is now vertical and not horizontal.

All the models mentioned above are different and all still in production. None replaced any of the others

Anthem      3.5inches travel

Anthem X   4in

Trance       4.2in

Trance X    5in

In terms of geometry the angles get a little bit slacker as you move up the travel ladder.

The Anthem X was introduced to be a bit plusher than the stock Anthem but still be race worthy, whereas the Trance's geometry is a bit slacker and not as snappy/racy.

Go ride the bikes and feel the difference!

Other than the angle and and travel, the head tube is longer therefore adds to a more relaxed - or maybe upright - riding position.

The change in head angle makes the AnthemX less twitchy - apparently. The guys of Mountain Bike Mag raved about the AnthemX but wanted a raiser bar fitted - which will aid even further to steering

My take is that Anthem is XC and Anthem X is more endurance bike - will tell you next week if this is so

Head tube remains unchanged.

The one degree change to front end does make a difference. I dont notice the extra few mm at the back though.20090417_042723_Giant_Anthem_Ge.jpg
