Bob,.........what goose are you getting built up. I am waiting for a Comp but it will also probably only be ready next week. Am used to flat pedals so I think the Raleigh is definetely at an advantage for the first challenge.

I got a Team frame and am putting it together myself. Should be done by the end of the week. Just need to do the dirty job of shortening the brake hoses and a couple of minor things, then test ride.

As for pedals, I have a serious problem getting out of Shimano SPD's - can't get out quick enough when I need to (they're not too tight), so I'm going to try something else.

I have not tried cleats before so I need to find out what will be the best option in terms of pedals with my new bike. Don't need the same problem however it may be an improvement on whatever I have compared with flat pedals.

Cleats are fine, actually better in a sense as you have the ability to not only push downwards on the pedal, but pull up aswell.. just gotta get used to them.

Try Eggbeater Candys, or just stick to flats. I'm running Shimano DX pedals with the long studs on skate shoes, and it's almost like being glued to the pedal. The only thing I miss is being able to pull up when I'm doing long uphills or straight sections.

Before the DX's I used Candys, and they're great.

Thanks, the Comp comes with Eggbeater Candys however I was not sure whether they were OK or needed changing when I get the bike. The bike shop said that Shimanos may be better but if it is a problem getting out of them then the Eggbeaters may be better. I have also seen the one that is flat on the one side and accomodates a cleat on the other,....not sure whether these are any good.

Might not be a problem for anyone else. I just can't seem to angle my foot out far enough. I've heard that Candys and Eggbeaters are easier to get out of. Have a set of Look Quartz that I'm going to try.

I use these and just gives one a bit of confidence cos you can always flip the pedal over..
