I am keen on a Womens specific bike, after hours of research I decided on the above bike. However I am told by friends that I am too tall for a womens bike, I am 1.79m.  I really am tired of "unisex" uncomfortable bikes. Does anyone have an answer for me please?

Your upper body length is what counts, generally women have longer legs and shorter torso's than men, so even if you can ride a mens medium, the top tube might make you stretch too much putting strain on your back and arms.

If you like the looks of a mens bike, buy a small frame size and elevate the seat post rather. you can easily adjust that height, rather than trying with unbelievably short stems and shifting saddles forwards

I know cos my wife is the same... if you go on her leg lentgh alone you she should ride a 17inch mtb, but she is only 1.59

The saffire is a good choice as Spesh have already taken into account the diff in your body.

Just get a decent shop to measure you up. Get them to do a proper setup on the day you buy, that way all your components are new, and if you need to swap out a stem or something, it's easy as the parts are unused.

Can't see that you're too tall for the bike. Good choice BTW. It comes in a large which would probably suit you. Best to try one out if you can but I'm sure it would be OK.

Best is to get a proper size up. Don't get pigeon holed into a size, I can ride a large but I am much happier on a medium.

Especially on a full suspension bike, I'd rather go smaller.

Plus they are lighter Wink

Ride both - specialized have demo's!!

Hot Mama I have A friend with the exact same problem. She is 1.8 and has got reaaally long legs. and short upper body.

The best is to be fitted on a bike. You can also search the web for bikefitting websites that you feed your measuremenst in and it will tell you more or less what you need to have. www.wrenchscience.com is quite nice. Just subscribe they might actually suggest something there they have a list of some bike brands.
