hi there,,  did robertson this weekend and started cramping with only 1.5km to go. this was really bad, both leggs, i couldnt stand, pedal nothing seem to work. I had my partner pushing me to help keep momentum going. Today my leggs are really in pain. I have never cramp before, yesterday was a first and today i can hardly walk

all this said, i have 2 questions,,, (as i need to get back on the bike ASAP, training for my first knysna race)Cry

1. what must i do/eat to prefent cramping, and if cramping during a race, what supplement must i take with

2. i`m now with sore leggs, where do i start, cause i need to train. Do weights now.. spin,, what must i do to keep going?????Confused

any info will be appreciated ALOT!!!

My never say cramp method: day before a race drink 2l energade; 2l water (its actually better if you start this 2 days before but day before is also ok). And: eat a banana before you ride. You will pee a lot but cramps wont come. If you are still nervous: take some Fast Fuel Cramp Blocks in your pocket for if you feel a cramp coming.

USN Cramp Block works really well for me. Take before during, and after the race. I usually crush mine up and add them to my drinks for during races.

Do not do weights. Very easy spinning works well. Very easy.

Cramping generally happens when you ride further or faster (or both) than your body/mind are accustomed to. Supplements are unlikely to make any difference.

Just ride longer, more regularly and lower your expectations (don't aim for a certain time, just aim to finish comfortably).

If you can't ride on your bike more regularly, try Spinning more regularly. Any kind of saddle time will help. Just do it as often as you can (4-5 times a week on average) with at least one longer bike ride per week.

I agree with Sean Badenhorst. Cramping can occur during unfamiliar exercise or when the body is fatigued. The fact that you cramped just before the end of the race seems to support this. Take it easy for the next couple of days and make sure you get the long rides in so you don't get fatigued during Knysna.
