this tour is ON my to-do-list for next year!!!!

on passing on singletrack ... rode the xc-course in the bikepark on friday' date=' my first thoughts were - wow, have to come - but then realised there's no way i would enjou it in a race, because not fast enough on the bits where you can pass, and would prolly be stuck behind people on the juivcy bits

how do the fast people do it - jut get to the singletrack first? or is it possible to pass?

Pass on the grass. Timing, a burst of speed and complete commitment...Big%20smile

i can see the logic on a ride like maybe in sabie somewhere - but on the singletrack at the bikepark? say, green mile? or ... what's the name of that black thingy on the other side of the highway? can i meet you there some time, and you show me? i'd love to be able to do that!

imagine diving under someone bmx-style on those bermed corners!Big%20smilelots of argy bargy! hmmmmmmmm?maybe we take hog out like that!Evil%20Smilethe black thingie on the other side of the highway is angle grinder. seems a bit too twisty and tight to overtake there.

Yeah, not really possible to pass on the Angle Grinder, but it's only about 40 seconds long with wide track before and after where you can pass. Sometimes you just have to wait for the right opportunity. This can mean riding a bit slower than you want to behind someone, but that's when you should take a quick drink and prepare for your big passing effort at the next possible opportunity. Green Mile is wide enough to zip past on a few sections.

Green Mile is wide enough for passing, but the corners are pretty fast which will make it difficult. When I did the skills clinic at Logwood we did laps of Inner Circle with the intention to pass each other as much as possible. Scary as hell, but such an adrenalin rush! That said, you need to pay attention to the track and your 'opponent', find a good spot to pass, and then time it right.
