Just laced up my mtb rear with one of these. For what i payed for it R220 looks like a good rim. Havnt tried it on any rough stuff yet.

You paid R220 for a MT-17? That's less than wholesale, IIRC.

 

They'll handle any rough stuff provided you have enough spoke tension and enough pressure in your tyres.

 

Those are good rims, with spoke eyelet/sockets, enough aluminium and good construction.
