Giant vs. Warranty vs. Painting

Recommended Posts

I had my OCR roadbike resprayed earlier this year.

the frame had some paint lifting and cracking around the lugs for the bottlecages. I took it to my LBS and they had the dealers investigate.

repairs and paintjob was done by their suppliers and I still have a warranty on the complete bike. Quality of the work done is amazing.

Even though it was only small-ish paintwork that was done, I am sure that the dealers (dragons) will be able to accomodate you painting your frame using their suppliers. Worth some investigation me thinks

I guess it is mostly better to have things done via the dealers so that they are aware of things being done to the bikes.

Cape Cycle Systems honoured the 'Dale warrantees, not Cannondale in the States. If they did not, they would loose a lot of business from Team Computer Smith. smiley4.gif

I would like to see what the new distributors will make of this.

Hmmm, generally this rule will apply to cover the manufacturer.

The independant distributor may be able to over ride the general rule with some discussion and most likely what CCS did with Samma.

I doubt very much if any distributor will cover resprays as a rule of thumb.

Personally, I see no merit in re-spraying a frame unless its in sponsors colours, the distributor / manufacturer has no control over the respray process, hense, I really think anyone who dos this must accept their warranty will be voided. I dont think the Manufacturer / distributor can be condemned for applying this rule.
