Hi ... I had a tumble this past weekend and scratched my Garmin badly on the face. No other problems. The quote is R2200 place vat as Garmin does not repair this in SA. This is not fair. They say they will give me a new unit, but I do want a new unit just a screen replaced at a reasonable fee. Why buy a brand name and not be able to have it fixed in SA. Please can someone give me a contact name of someone at Garmin who will listern as the techie is not helping much.  Thx

Who is the techie you're dealing with. I have had plenty fun with Avnic's techinical department. In some regards they are quite clued up in others could be fooled into believing they've never worked with the device.

 

As for repairs, the tech guys here seem to just be product "experts" eg. know what it can do (in most cases), how to set it up, but don't get involved with screw drivers, soldering irons and the like.

 

You need to find someone higher up the food chain in Avnic who cares about the company image/profile who in turn may make a plan for you.

Avnic has been called many things, but believe me when it comes to warranty/backup on their products I have never had anything but the best, prompt service which usually ends in a simple no nonsense swap out. Which is what they are likely to do for you Scotty.
