ok, not very cycling related,  but maybe there are a few technically minded people out on the hub that can help me.

i'm wanting to weld up a slow combustion fireplace (student so cant afford a few thousand rand to buy one)

if anyone has one, or knows how they work, maybe you could draw a sketch for me. i'm needing to know how the air-vents work and any other important part that makes it function.

thanks

I suggest you google the Woodworking sites, can remember that years ago I came across plans for a (they call it a stove) that burns on woodshavings and sawdust that was basically a 40 gallon drum with pipe going out, The whole stove then provide heat for workroom. Google words like: slow burning stove etc. good luck!!

Have this picture for you, if you an engineer student it shouldn't be hard to draw up plans from this and seen that you are South African you can use all kinds of old rubbish and make it look good. Because thats what we do best

Some observations: The guy who created the stove in the picture used a beer barrel - sacreledge. He paid for his sins though, since he couldn't weld stainless, he used a couple of kgs of Pratley Puttey to fix the chimney to the barrel.

That platform on top is for cooking. Students don't cook, so skip that step. Besides, it looks unstable and will just slip sideways and wham, goes your lobster thermidor onto the floor.

Some tips: Keep the carpet further away from the stove than the original carpet in the picture.

A bonus step here is the subtle instructions on making a single seat from a couch. I smell chainsaw.
