I can get a new GaryFisher mountain bike with a Dart1 shock and Deore gears for 3500 is it a good price.  It has V-brakes. Not sure what model it is but I know it is not 2009. Me and my husband want to take up MTB is this a good bike to start with.

Not sure about the price (if it's good or not), but if you can, it will be well worth it to rather go for disc brakes.  It makes a world of diff.  I'd say it would justify paying that little bit extra.  Big%20smile

Go to the Gary Fisher website at this link  http://fisherbikes.com/bike/archive/2008 and search for your bike in the archive. The Archive stretches from 2008 to 2002.  Be very carefull, some unscrupulous bike shops will strip some od the good components and replace it with cheaper components. The specs for RSA Gary Fishers may not necessarily be the same but it will be close. make sure the frame has mountings on the rear triangle for mounting disk brakes later on.

Is the bike new and where are you buying it?

If you plan to take up mountain bikeing seriously, I'll start with this bike. The Deore gears is soooo 'good enough' already. The dart 1 shock is not the best, but it does the business. the best part about entry level buys is that you can sell it in future for about 70-90% of its value that you paid for it.

Mind you, that its when you decide to "upgrade"....hmmm...ja....did raak maar duur dan...because you then have a good idea of what exactly you want and what you want to do with the bike.

To start off with though, I think it is a good amount to spend for your inital bike to check out the scene with. you might even decide not to upgrade in the future...

just make sure that the kit on the bike is what is listed on the website...

Not a bad buy, a bike with V brakes and Deore components took a top 10 at the epic a few years back. The shock might not be the best but as a start it will be more than adequate. Suggest have a look at the original specs for the bike as some sellers downgrade specs then try sell the bike based on the frame model.
