  2. Evidently another accident involving motorbikes and bicycles near the Lion Park
  3. The way I shop is as follows: Walk into said shop, look around, select something, proceed to counter, pay and walk out with selected item. Benefits are manyfold. Local shops get the benefit, I have the item immediately and if there is a problem I take it back. Now, I also realise not everything is available locally, but I buy what is available ..... there's no risk of things getting lost! I've still got a R8 000 camera lens floating around between JHB & CT - been over 10 years now. I sent that via TNT to Cape Town for repair .... long story, but it never arrived. Paperwork was signed by some mystery person!!idrive2010-05-18 17:16:20
  4. .... more reasons to by locally - even if the choice is slightly limited!

  7. Eish!!! I know that stretch of road (Gt Western highway) but it just goes to show how vulnerable cyclists are .... even in a nanny state like Oz!!
  8. Today in Isando I got to a robot that wasn't working - I becomes a 4-way stop - and, despite being a cyclist, I stopped to give way to the car coming on my right... I even unclipped and put my foot down. I noticed a metro police van coming from my left, but as it hadn't got to the intersection, I decide to go. The metro van wasn't going fast but then this fat lipped idiot doesn't stop and hoots at me as he passes behind me. A few seconds later I hear a car coming up behind me and this metro toss pulls up next to me and forces me to stop. It then starts shouting and swearing at me for going through without stopping. I try explaining that I did stop but it was he who didn't and he tells me that police have the right of way at 4-way stops. He threatens to arrest me and all sorts of things, so I offered to give him my name and address, but he just told me to to stop f.....g with the police and that its people from the old days like me that cause all the sh.t I did NOTHING to provoke him and he left by wheelspinning his way through an illegal U-turn !!
  9. Don't crucify the motorist .... maybe it was a truck or something that didn't even feel or hear a bump or the driver never even saw the cyclist ..... It is sad, but does anyone know what happened?

  12. Heard yesterday that Willie Englebrech died in a accident with a train .... any truth in this?
  13. thats why I buy locally ....
  14. I'm convinced that half the people sprouting off in forums are retards! A lot of harm can be done by not reading posts in the topic before writing some mindless drivel.
  15. what igzacterly is meant by 'switching'? ps ... I'm a mountainbiker!!
  16. This morning I discovered just how selfish runners are ... even worse than roadies!! At around 6:00am I was riding in Evildale and a bunch of pedestrians (well, they were running) came stampeding towards me but they were filling the whole side of the road (my left). Stupidly I expected them to slot into single (or double file) and allow me to continue. There were a few cars coming in the opposite direction so I could not go onto the wrong side of the road. Anyway, I elected to stop as this was the safest option, but said pedestrians took exception to this and accused me of spoiling their training. "Whats $*&^#@ wrong with you there's plenty of room!" shouted the sweaty one with reflective bands all over him. All I ask is that they also consider cyclists .... I will not put myself at risk because of some arrogant pricks who think they own suburbia at that time of morning.
  17. I couldn't agree more Anton. Well said Isn't that just another sarcastic comment .... maybe we are preventing someone from getting ripped off. Who else feels that there's something fishy about the post. Going to varsity, can't spell, cyclist lets him ride a bike during the week ....
  18. Maybe he should apply his mind to spelling first .....
  19. Yup, most laws are actually based on the principle of common sense. Like indicating, stopping at stop streets etc but the authorities seem unwilling to police the laws as it involves a bit more work and less opportunity to solicit bribes than manning a speed trap. FACT: Pedal Cycles are classified as vehicles, otherwise the authorities would be telling us to ride on the pavement.idrive2010-02-17 13:52:03
  20. Time for a bit of common sense! If you are riding up a long hill on a freeway and you approach a junction: Do you a) stay in the emergency lane and take the off-ramp or b) join the 120 km/h traffic and hope for the best? At 20km/h a cyclist is covering 5.5 meters every second while at 120km/h a car will cover 33 m/s ....... doesn't fuggin matter what the law says .... common sense should be the deciding factor. idrive2010-02-17 12:13:16
  21. Unless it is between dawn and dusk' date=' visibility is at least 150m, it is safe to do so and you have moved over to let other vehicles past (a pretty much permanent state for a cyclist). [/quote'] ... yes, so by rights you should cycle in the road lane and only move over into the emergency lane when a vehicle come up behind you.
  22. I had a bike stolen off a carrier at Kyalami. It was locked onto the Thule carrier but lock and bike was missing so therefore the proof of theft was also missing. Insurance (can't remember company) told me to voetsak as it was unattended..... Is the thief supposed to leave a note saying he's stolen your bike .......
  23. Be careful in accusing people ..... maybe someone else is using his ID book. Mine has gone missing
  24. ...... another point everyone has missed is that it is illegal to ride in the emergency lane!
