Ok, So I built my new bike yesterday...

New frame, Same components. Full Dura Ace.

So I cable up my bike with the old housing and new inners, just using what I had, and test it out... not dropping into the 11T.

Ok so hmmm... I tried turning out the limit screw, all the way off...same.

I notice my power chain speed sensor hitting the cage...adjust...same.

I think the cable ties holding the speed sensor wire are constricting the housing..I take them off and use some tape...same.

I remove the RD and refit...same.

I sleep on it.

So I get some brand new Dura Ace cables and fit them this morning...same.

I loosen the cable tension off so that the cable is totally slack on the down tube...still just skips along trying to drop but not dropping.

With a combination of all of the best scenarios, the chain now drops but only after a long time of deciding if it wants to or not.

Could it be the pulleys? I have tried the adjuster screw that changes the pulley to cassette height too, to no avail.

This is a brand new bike, could the hanger be bent?

All of the rest of the gears shift sweet. 13-23 a up and down.

Ouch

your hangar could definitely be bent i could suggest going to your nearest LBS and getting them to check it unless you have the tools yourself

Both 39 and 53, same.

That's the only thing I can think of now, is the hanger...

Both bikes are tarmacs, so I'll try my old hanger and see if that works.

I can loosen is so much that it sits in the 2nd cog and I need to shift up twice to get it to the 3rd cog...

I will try take it right out of the pinch bolt and see if that helps? Hasietjie do you mean the routing of the cable through the pinch?

The problem is that If I have so little cable tension, I could get it into the 11 but then getting it out again is going to take 3 shifts!

The more I try the more I reckon the hanger is bent. I know how to set gears... there is something mechanical that is not lekker.

tarmac is your hangar screwed on tight enough????? it might not be bent but could also be loose

I have observed it while shifting and didn't see it moving, but I'll check it all the same!

Thanks for the suggestions

Set the H & L screws with the chain off as it is easire to align the range of travel that way. You can easily gauge the alignment against your cassette this way. Then reclamp the cable but make sure that the barrel adjuster is not turned in or out the whole way....I normally have mine turned in about 2 thirds of the way.........Once done it should start on you 11T no problem unless you have more critical problems?

I don't buy this Shimano criticism at all....

They've been too long in this game to make k@k components!! Else they would have been out of business long ago!

Viva Shimano, viva!

Sorry about this, but one has to check the obvious.

Does the DR move freely to it's retracted position and does it go all the way? If it does and you've checked all the things you said, well, I don't know?! smiley5.gif

Thanks to all those that helped out here... I found the problem!

So I checked the hanger, looks straight to me (I should have know it wasn't Specialized's fault!)

SO...I loosened the cable all the way off...still doesn't help much, but I get involved and stick my head right in under the RD and check out what's going on...

The Clue was to the check the cable was routed properly, it was, BUT, the  washer/clamp that pinches the cable against the housing had rotated around when I changed cables and was now causing and issue with it's little elbow section limiting the movement of the RD by stopping it's arm from retracting fully...!

I turned it 90 degrees to the left to where it should be and reset the gears... Perfect crisp DA shifts here I come!

Sometimes it's the tiniest detail!
