Anyone else unhappy about the 6minute penalty given to the riders who were sent on the wrong route in the Carousel classic? We ended up riding 117 kays instead of 110 AND were given a 6 minute PENALTY!!

We queried it with the timing company and received a very curt response that no manual changes would be done.

We were sent on the wrong route within the first 10 kays, and at ?55km some vehicles following the elite men signalled for us to turn around, we stopped and asked marshals who told us to carry-on!! (more than once) Eventually the race commissar (also following the elites) passed us and had the decency of slowing down and confirmed that we were to turn around!

This meant that there we no water points, no sweep vehicles (the organisers we lucky there weren't any accidents..)and obviously no marshalling at any intersection back to the venue (60km back).

Why are we paying R160 per race if this is the quality of service?

How is it that riders in the lead bunch did 102km, while others did 117. Surely the officials and lead guys returning warned other riders that a mistake had been made as they passed them.

Is it not part of the 'terms and conditions' that cyclists are responsible for knowing the route?

If I could get hold of the route map before the time (motionbased/garmin connect, etc all have it on), and actually know where I am supposed to go to, surely everybody else can do the same?

Be glad that B only received a 6 minute penalty and were not DQ'd in total.

Everybody just whines and moans and groans... Nobody willing to take responsibility for their own actions (or lack thereof)

Oh, and the timing company (Championchip) may not alter your (wifes) time. You should take that up with the race organisers. Good Luck!

smiley5.gif We did ask officials. I stopped at an intersection at the ?56km mark and the official told me to carry on - we were going the right way... By now some riders in our bunch had been told that we were on the wrong route, we asked many bike officials, every alternate one told us to carry on, others sped past only signalling for us to turn around.

Look these things happen, I just feel that the organisers should've had a plan B in place, they had plenty of time to set up an alternative turning point, and could have at least left some marshals at the intersections for the route back.
