Hi Guys

I have heard and read mixed reports about using a normal road tire on an indoor trainer. Everything from "its cool if you don't mind exploded tire and tube all over the room" to "works fine, no problems".

I need to get an IDT and this question has big cost implications.

If I can use a normal tire on the IDT (maybe at a lower pressure or something) I can use my Powertap wheel to track power and record the session. If I cannot then I need to get an IDT that measures power as I don't want to have to keep changing the tire on my PT wheel. The latter is much more expensive especially if I want to be able to download the session etc.

So what are your thoughts?

Cheers

David

I've used a normal tire on an indoor trainer.

It makes a bit more noise, and leaves a black residue behind the IDT (tire wear), but I've never had a serious problem.  Take note that your tire will generally wear quickly.
