PPA...are they up to it?

So I decided to renew my membership, and do some fun rides....what a waste of time and money!!!

It has taken PPA 2 months to NOT get the new seeding done or your new number posted. PPA's excuse is that due to the windy Argus it has skewed the seeding... "PPA what have you been doing for the last 5 months?" 5 MONTHS and they only realise that now???

Then when you go to calendar on the PPA site..."sorry we are having problems, use this link"

That link takes you to Racetec, and it does not work....I email Racetec and ask them if they are aware that the site is down.

"Yes we know" ???? But why don't they post something or fix it? It has now been down for 2 weeks

Then I did a ride on Saturday, and what I do not understand is why PPA can mark the route but not have a route profile available?

They also had the cut-off time set to 45 min after the winners finished?

And 30 mins later packed up and left.....I thought that PPA will one work it out correctly and if they did not at least stay till the last person has come in?

Now why did I join them again???? smiley7.gif

Hi Coenie,

Sounds like you did the 70km Swartland route on Saturday and, like me, also had a "sense of humour failure"? see https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=59689&PN=2

PPA are responsible for the seeding (through racetec). I have given up asking them to keep it simple and just seed everyone on our PPA rides without bothering with the complication of adjusting the winners time based on last Argus etc

The event organisers are responsible for route marking and other route info - not PPA - as I understand it.

I don't know who decides on the cut-off time for the timing mats / prize giving etc but I am sure the organisers will also have a say here?

All I know is that the mats were lifted by the PPA, and the organisers asked them to not do it...PPA made the decision...

How long does it take PPA to make a dicision wrt to the seeding? In 5 months they have not been able to come up with a solution? I would say that it is pathetic. And we pay money for that?

Then Racetec, how long does it take them to fix their site, it is the ONLY place where you can get more info on the ride and it is not working?

Come on guys. calm down. You are in the mother city after all. You still have 4 months before anything starts to happen

Hmmm actually no, I want to go and do a ride this coming weekend, cannot get more info on web re the ride...lost my OLD PPA number and now I will have to go and get a temp number at every ride...

It is not 4 months to go....there are rides on every weekend ?

When I saw that the start of the 70km ride was 8:30 and the cut-off was 13:30, I decided not to do the event. The message was clear from the orginisers / PPA, come if you want to race, we don't want you here if you are an average cyclist that want to improve your (already complicated) seeding.

I knew that 5 hours would be pushing it to complete the ride, and I was not going to drive 300 km there and back for the 40 km ride.

Have you heard if there is a road race on this weekend? I'm flying down to CT on Friday and taking my bike with.

If not then maybe we can organise a HUB rideBig%20smile

No Speed Devil no road race, coenie is referring to MTB races. They have been running each weekend for a while.

The seeding matters on MTB races as well, cause you don't want to get stuck behind slower riders on singletrack, etc. So the problem is MTBers are paying their subs to PPA but not getting service for it!

I'm fed up with them now. I can only make so many sweet and polite phone calls to find out where my number is. Yet again I'm going to have to stress at this Sundays race because of a freakin temp number. I don't want a temp number. I want MY number. I don't want to have to stress about going to races earlier for this crap because PPA decided to outsource it. Who's bright idea was that?! (some) Riders are stressed enough as it is before races (unfortunately I'm one of them). Seriously, is it too much to ask for? Nevermind seeding, I just want the number. One less thing to worry about before a race.

Dont worry guys' date=' a little birdie, voetsek and scooter heard through the grapevine that Racetec and Mr. Bellairs got some trouble with CSA.

But as I say, its another voetsek and scooter story... zipp[/quote']
