Tomorrow i will have the headset cups, BB and chain removed and then i will start by removing stickers and all paint from the frame and mask it all up and ready for painting on Thursday,

by the way the part that i cant show with photos is the amount of work to make it a super super smooth finish, that took plenty polishing

spray paint generally has an orange peel effect when done, so you need to flatten it with either wet sanding it with sandpaper which had about a million grit, but for rattle can thats probably to sever so best to use something like a car polish that has a slight 'cutting' action like meguiar's swirl-x or something similar.....

, im respraying the frame because it is badly scratched and rusted and chipped.

i polished it with autosol metal polish, its not to severe and it does take the orange peel look away.

started removing paint from the frame today, hopefully it will be ready for paint by saturday

How long did you wait between coats? I'm keen to do a little spraying myself, just don't have a compressor so cans will have to do.

  • 2 weeks later...

Little ben, You have my Bike.... I have been looking for it for about 3 months now.

I would love to have it back!!!

But if you are going to use it I would wish you best of luck on it! It took me to 2 SA titles and 2 seasons in T-Town racing against the best in the USA.

The bike has a very interesting past:

I raced JR worlds in Cape Town and got 5th in the 1km TT with Jeff Hopkins winning.

I became very good friends with him and raced together in the States winning the Tandem events and setting a new US record that still stands. Anyway his dad is a frame builder in the Aussie. Jeff had a very similar frame built by his Dad. I asked if I could copy it? and when i got back to SA I had Duncan build this frame. It pushes the legal limit for a frame with a sloping back top tube (like a MTN Bike). It has the same angles as a cannondale track frame. I had the seat stay tubes extended for strength and added a double seat clamp. I also had Duncan fill in all the 90 degrees with filler to make it more aero. The steel is from a tandem and is twisted. The bike took over 3 months to build and once I showed people at the track it took off! Garen Bloch had one built and trained on it for the Olympics. Sean lynch also had one and if he could ride it with out breaking it anyone can.

Please if you ever want to get a nother bike I would love to get my hands back on my old horse.

Thanks and may happy hours in the saddle

Craig Corbett
