I just bought a second hand frame which I'm planning on pimping to the max and want to hand-build a lot of the parts. One of the things I'm planning on is hydraulic brakes, but I got to thinking why not hydraulic shifting? Has anyone ever heard of this or read about it? And how practical would it be you think?

And on a semi-related thought, can you get carbon fibre brake discs and are they effective (again mtb specific)?

Air pressure to me doesn't make sense since air can be compressed too much, that would give an imprecise feel I would think. Water on the other hand might be an even better way to go, if my std 8 science is correct, water can't be compressed. Hmmm... need to work on this a while!
