Recon Shock bottoming out

Mutt

Recommended Posts

I have a RECON 351 coil Spring fork on my bike. I have noticed recently that it is bottoming out (ie. compressing as far as it will) i have twiddled everything there is to twiddle which made no difference (I took note of where it was and put it all back). Problem is I think i have flipped over the handlebars a few times because of it (easier to blame the bike that my own incompetencesmiley1.gif) I find this is denting my confidence a bit as I am unsure if I can trust it.

Now what i want to know is - if the spring is too soft can it cause this? Can i get it stiffened or replaced? Should I chuck it (Sell it on the hub to someone who weighs less than me) and look at a new fork with AIR! If replace is my best option what should I look at buying without breaking the bank. +/-3 - 4 grand!

Get a stiffer spring, your LBS should be able to get one. Otherwise cape Cycle Systems are the local Rockshox agents.

You didn't say whetheer you had luck or not.

The right method is to remove the spring, measure it and compare it against spec. If it is to short, it should be replaced. If the current strength spring always worked for you, replace it with the same, otherwise beef it up.

I have a supplier who makes springs for me. These can be customised to suit individual needs, such as longer travel, more weight bearing etc.
