WHAT do customs charge when bringing in frames. Is it 10% + 14% vat. ALSO if you have family in say the UK and they send you a frame as a present is there any amount to pay? smiley1.gif

Frame are duty free, you will pay 14% vat though based on the following

Value + 10% = R???? x14 % = Vat

Even if its a gift you have declare a value

Best is just to get a letter from relative stating the following

"gift of no commercial value, value for customs purposes only ZAR ???"

Hmm, customs do'snt always fall for that either. If they feel like making things difficult, they can call for a price list from the supplier and base their calculations on that as well. I would bargain on the value +10% = Total x 14% - if they accept your "present" great, if not, you are covered.
