Silly question no doubt...

But wanting to order a particular brand of seatclamp from the UK, and I'm not sure what size I should order it in...

Assuming I don't want to fashion some way to measure the outside diameter of my seatpost - or rather, the diameter of the spot where the seatpost enters the frame - what's the easiest way to do this?

Is the "sizing" of the seatpost clamp in any way referenced to the size of the seatpost it would fit - or is it a straight-up reference to the internal diameter of the clamp's diameter/hole [Embarrassed]?

Btw - I'm sitting with a non-standard frame - so it makes life a bit trickier.

Think my seatpost diameter should be 27.0 - but the 26.8 Thomson I have in there now, appears to work [long story]...

I notice that the most common seatclamp size comes in at 31,8mm. A few can be found at 30mm. But apart from the odd 25.4mm, the closest to a 28.6/27.0 seatpost size is a 28.6mm clamp... Would the latter be the one for me, based on my 26.8/27.0 specs?

Any suggestions - shout!

AFAIK it's the ID of the clamp. Just measure the OD of the seat tube, and robert's your father's brother.

Also, with your seatpost, check that it doesn't rattle in the seat tube. Even slightly. The clamp will still clamp, but the post will move in the seat tube and bolx it up.

Thanks people...

Picking the bike up this afternoon at Gecko cycles - will check if they have a vernier, so that I can confirm Robert being my father's brother...  Tongue
