Genesis Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 I did this exercise just last week, and I still found the post office to be the cheapest. I sent a bike from PE to Pretoria - cheapest courier I could find was aprox R350, Sent economy parcel post with Post Office and cost R150. Dont think you gonna get cheaper unless someone you know is going that way and will do you a favour.

Christopher Brunsdon Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 Being sending counter 2 counter for the last 10yrs and its the most reliable method when it comes to best bang for your buck. Never an issue. Understand the insurance has changed though but its still cost effective. Mailed my daughter a new cellphone (twice) and insurance comes out to a few rands. Never lost a parcel.

porky Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 The differance between the post office cost and the courier cost lies in that the courier will collect at your house and deliver to the reciepient. In other words a door to door service. The PO is usually a counter to counter service, so you have to lug your parcel to the PO and stand in line, then somebody has to stand in line and collect it there. A courier will also transport the parcel a lot quicker than the PO, usually by a good few days, so, Yah, its really about your requirements, basically you pay for the "convenience and speed" of service from a courier, if thats not important, then its fine, use the Post Office.
