**********edit update***************

some may have noticed my silly error, but i decided to 'post' this anyway, as i'm sure some might find it of interest, and the question in green remains anyway.

*************************************

seriously considering the switch from v's to discs.

how I miss sheldon brown. normally that's my first stop solving bike queries, as it's always explained so succintly. Unfortunately, I don't think he ever touched hydraulic discs.

next up is google, mtbr and here. unfortunately 'isis' doesn't exactly narrow it down, and well you're reading this 'post' too. So I couldn't really find a 'dummies guide', but kinda figured it's basically a 90' switch that requires an adaptor.

because i'm getting some good deals, we're looking at:

rockshox 2009 reba fork(post mount)

avid elixir 5 discs(isis mount)

I already have the

santa cruz superlight 2003(isis, i assume)

good news is that they're both SRAM, bad news is that sram website is absolutely terrible (or maybe i'm just tired and can't find stuff). There is not even an archive of previous years models(yip, even 2009 evades me).

However I decided not to worry, as I found this cute disclaimer here

"All Avid disc brakes fit standard(wtf?) disc hub mount. They are compatible with front post and I.S. mounts and rear I.S. mounts."

now, my main question, how does this effect my rotor size choices, was going to go for 180mm?

of course none of this would be necessary if i was able to explain why a v brake is square shaped and a cantilever is v shaped in the first place

*****************update edit**********************

der, it's IS mounts. ISIS is for ferking bottom brackets

this didn't help!

The post mount on the fork will still need an adapter and longer bolts, the post to post Avid adapter to fit 185mm (avid don't do 180mm rotors) is basically a spacer that moves the caliper out.

The rear will also need an adapter but be carefull cuz there is a difference between front and rear adapters for the 185mm rotors. the most common mount on the rear is still I.S. so you shouldn't have a problem there.
