I have a Rockshox Sid SL. When it compresses it makes this squishy sound, like wet shoes.... or somethingConfused  Is this normal? The guy at the bike shop said that airshocks make that sound.

Yup, it is normal but it is not the air side that's making the noise, it is the damper side. When compressing, you're moving a lot of fluid around through little crevaces it doesn't like to flow through, so of course it complains.

DT Swiss forks have a loud snap sound on the rebound as the rebound valve snaps shut. Marzocchis sound like they have rivers inside.

The air piston side is completely silent. It is like taking a bicycle pump, closing the hole with your thumb and compressing it slightly. No noise.
