CSC and Man part ways. Could it be a result of Bjarne admitting to doping?

The German trucking and bus company MAN has requested to be absolved from its sponsoring contract with Team CSC, and the request has been met by Riis Cycling A/S.

?MAN does no longer wish to use cycling sport as part of its marketing activities and of course we will be taking this into consideration. On top of recent developments the German company no longer considers the sport a suitable platform for the branding of its products, and this means that MAN will no longer be sponsoring the team. We regret this of course, but at the same time we are happy that we have managed to come up with a suitable solution for both parties regarding the termination of our contract, which was originally meant to run until the end of 2008,? explains Chairman of the Board at Riis Cycling A/S, Henrik Schl?ter.

It was inevitable.

I can only think its to do with the current confession of Rijs and a few others as CSC as a team has been doing great things, but, even with a 2nd in the Giro poor perceptions of the pro cycling business has again taken its toll.

CSC is onr of the top financed teams in the region of 9 million Euros (give or take) coughing up the full budget will be a hard pill to swallow for CSC alone if they cant get a co-sponsor on board in the short term.

No one can complain about his 96 TDF win, he was the best doper of the lot that year.

Three stooges: Bjarne Riis celebrates his 1996 Tour de France victory with second-placed Jan Ullrich, right, and Richard Virenque, in third place. Riis has since admitted to doping, Ullrich has been implicated in a blood-doping ring and Virenque admitted to doping.
