The MS battery isnt waterproof so needs to be redesigned..

It doesn't need to be redesigned. It just requires some waterproofing, viz...

Rad' date=' you might want to add the type, size and durability of batteries as this is probably the bit that affects the price the most.AU is very compact although not sure how waterproof it is. I wouldn't want to spill any water near the MS battery while the BL has a Li-Pol in a waterbottle.[/quote']

The MS battery looks suspect in terms of its water-resistance, but in practice, I don't believe you will easily drown the thing - unless it gets submerged.

Remember, the way the battery mounts, it's hanging underneath your stem inside its pouch. It's largely protected from rain, and there is practically no water/mud that gets sprayed up from your tyres in that location.

Saying all that, I do agree that the battery is one area which could do with some improvement.

I am experimenting with a product called Plasti Dip, which is like a liquid rubber which you dip stuff into and it dries, forming a watertight rubber coating. I have treated my own battery with this stuff and it seems to work pretty well.

If you really are paranoid about drowning your battery, then you can pick up a can of this stuff for about 100 bucks. I guarantee you will find many other uses for it around the house.

Brad, you may be having some water shortages down there in the Eastern Cape but up here in Jo'ies we are swimming. A ride on The Spruit will leave you drenched even on the odd occasion when it's not raining. :)

Slick, I guess you are right. We haven't really had rain down here for so long, my experience will differ from those of you who have to contend with riding in the wet regularly.

Another tip which the UK guys are doing in wet riding conditions is to wrap the battery in a plastic packet, then insert it into its pouch.

The packet won't be visible and there is no need to remove the battery from its pouch for charging, etc. So this is a once-off task.

or take it to the local butchers (or pick n pay) and get them to shrinkwrap the battery.

@Rad, no, not available at Builders. If you want the local agents details, pm me.

I have the MS lights, except I bought them from Deal Extreme at half the price.

The light works very well, but I would question the stated run time on high. The lights I have don't get much more than an hour on high beam. You get more on low beam, which is more than adequate for most night riding.

That doesn't sound right Jules.

The ones I sell consistently get between 3 and 3,5 hours runtime on high.

Anyone who has bought one of my lights and has this problem let me know and you will have a replacement battery in your hands the next day (provided its still within the warranty period obviously).

You could always try your luck with a warranty claim against Deal Extreme.

Is yours the 5-mode version? I only sell the 3-mode version, although I am pretty sure the high setting is the same on both.

Mine is the 3-mode version. Doesn't really bother me, because I use it for my weekly night race, which is only an hour anyway...

Just sharing my experience.

No need for a group order. Shipping is free whether you order one or twenty.

The only hassle is the wait, which can be looooong.

If you're impatient and want your light now, buy Brad's.
