AlexJ007 Posted February 4, 2010 Share Hi there How do you all clean a rusty chain? Mine recently developed 3 or 4 rust spots. I want to nail them before if gets bad.
Christopher Brunsdon Posted February 4, 2010 Share Rust should just be cosmetic. Lower grade chains rust quicker than higher grade. You can "buff" the rust with an old cloth if it bothers you. Its anyway just surface rust and not where it matter unless your not lubbing your chain.
AndreZA Posted February 4, 2010 Share Once they start, they don't stop. You need to lube it as soon as you finished washing the bike otherwise it's back 10 minutes later. Take it off, lay it on a flat surface and scrub with some steel wool.
BrendonMyb Posted February 4, 2010 Share i also found that a normal green dishwashing sponge worked wonders, the rough side that is & doesnt scratch the hell out of the metal but does the intended purpose
gremlin Posted February 4, 2010 Share Rusting happens quickly in Durban especially after a muddy race like Eston. chain almost looked orage with the rust after I washed it.
