Broken saddle rail

So, this morning while riding in groenkloof the one rail of my selle italia slr gel flow just snapped.

 

It happend just after where the rail is clamped and I had to ride the rest of the way on the front of my saddle.

 

Can this be fixed or will I have to get a new saddle and why did this happen?

same happened to my brand new fizik Gobi saddle in Tokai the other day. In fairness I did land on it pretty hard but very bleak that it was brand new-no easy way to fix it I'm afriad(my rails were just bent but the plastic in the saddle part had snapped)

pull the broken rails out and replace it with an old saddle's rails - probably a lot stronger, if a bit heavier...

You want a saddle rail up your arse...... be stingy and try to repair it......

 

..... look at these pics here...... a saddle rail wil do more damage at many more strategig places!!!!!!!!

I saw the integrated hand gears the other day. Not nice. Will see if I can maybe replace them with older stronger heavier rails.

 

Now my bike will be off balance if I don't replace both.

I had a Selle Italia and bent the rail in a fall. Linden cycles sent it back to the agent here and apparently the have the correct jig effort to replace the rail. It took no more than three days and I think it cost about R200. I was very impressed with the quick service and the saddle is good as new.
