tubbies have the tube stitched inside the tyre and are glue onto the rim of the wheel. clinchers are your convential road wheel where the tube is seperate to the tyre.

tubbies are generally much lighter than clinchers and used for racing

Tubbies are a mich nicer ride.....but a much higher price. Also a pain to fix...that's if you fix them. Bit expensive to throw away each time though.

Unless a serious racer or money to spare......ride clinchers.

If you get a flat in a race your race is over on tubbies

Your race is pretty much over if you get a flat in a race period, unless you have a support vehicle with a extra set of wheels.

Some guys race with a spare tubby and claim to be able to change a tubby as quickly as they change a tube.

Lets say you are really quick in fixing your puncture and get it done in 5 minutes, do you recon you can close that gap on the bunch without a team helping you??

Probably won't catch them - but I guess u could finish in time to pick up the next bunch commming thro - losing 5min because of puncture would still be a good finish for me.

it really depends on which racing groups we are talking about, top groups, middle groups or back markers.

Top groups - gonna be very very tough to catch them on your own. (after a 5min stop)

Middle groups - can be done.

Backmarkers - doesnt need tubbies.

Best thing to do is to hook onto the next bunch coming past and just enjoy the day out.
