Nope - I reckon YOU should take responsibility. The maps were published well before hand and I made sure I was familiar with the route. I love one of Andrew Mclean's favourite sayings that he reckons pulling on a shammy is like pulling on a nappy. It's the best way to revert a group of adults to a bunch of helpless children.

Thats nonsense.! This is not an Audax where everyone gets a little map and waves their loved ones goodbye.

I guess the riders on the Vuelta (presently on the go) sit down and familiarise themselves with all the road names on the course before heading out.?

I dont think so.!

It happens all to often, marshalls have a duel responsibility, to ensure the race participants follow the correct route, and to assist in traffic.

It happened at the last LOST CITY I rode and we all careered off into a head on traffic jam, so yeah, its unnecessary and dangerous and the OP has a valid point.

In any event, not everyone lives in the area, maybe they came from far away. maybe they dont know the roads, maybe they didnt have the little map with them (did you?) maybe they had a sugar low, were hot and tired and just wanted to go home, maybe they are elderly and just needed some reassurance - I find your comments incredibly self centered and insensitive.

As for the comment on nappies and babies, was that necessary.? The OP had an issue which you may not have had, is that a reason to pipe up with a derogatory remark.?

Herewith reply from Racetec regarding the timing ... I suppose nothing will come of any of this.

I know a guy that took the wrong turn and ended up doing about 70 km instead of 90km. He contacted Racetec and they moved his time to the 40km. Hopefully the rest of the guys do the same.

Soxx, are you just soour cause I kicked your butt?

In all seriousness though I agree that this should not count towards the seeding however I sure as hell did not ride only 40km's so to award my time to that distance is also unfair!

Even if the marshalls were still there, it might not have helped.

I was leading the VA race with a healthy gap. The MArshall at this last intersection, was standing in the middle of the intersection with his flag in the air. I took it that I had to go straight, as he was blocking the road to the right. Boy was I surprised (at first surprised then f ing mad!) when the commissaire started hooting in her car. I looked back only to realise that I had been sent the wrong way! by the time I was able to stop my bike on that downhill, turn around and ride back up the intersection, I had lost my 300m gap to the chasing bunch. Lost a certain win to some incompetent marshalling.

Commissaire apologised, but said there was nothing she could do for me other than write it up in her report.

You might say I should know the route, but no matter how much I had studied that map, I would no thave known where I was as these roads are unfamiliar to me. Even had I known the road, the fact that the marshall was standing in the way waving me straight would have still sent me the wrong way.

Some of the guys at the head of the chasing bunch were sent the wrong way at the intersection before this last one.

oh well! cést la vie... who knows maybe someday, someone else will be sent the wrong way, and I might score a win :P
